Program outline

This is a three-day IT career conversion introductory program designed to introduce participants to various career paths available in the IT industry, assess their current skills and knowledge, and help them develop an action plan for pursuing a career in IT. The program is divided into three sessions, each lasting 15 minutes. Each session includes icebreakers, homework tasks, and fun activities to keep participants engaged and motivated.

On Day 1, participants are introduced to the program's purpose and can introduce themselves to the group. They also learn about the different IT career paths available and are provided with a fun activity that introduces them to basic programming concepts.

Session 1 (15 minutes) - Introduction and Ice Breaker

Introduce myself and explain the purpose of the program.

Have each participant introduce themselves and share their current career or field of study.

Ice Breaker: "Two Truths and a Lie" - have each participant share two true statements about themselves and one false statement, and the rest of the group must guess which statement is the lie.

Session 2 (15 minutes) - Overview of IT Career Opportunities

Discuss IT career paths, such as software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, and IT support.

Talk about the current demand for IT professionals and the potential for growth in the field.

Homework Task: Research a specific IT career path and come prepared to share what you learned with the group next session.

Session 3 (15 minutes) - Fun Activity

Play a game that introduces participants to basic programming concepts, such as "Code Combat" or "Code Hunt”.

This activity will give participants a taste of what it's like to work in IT and help them understand some of the foundational skills required.

On Day 2 is focused on assessing the participant's current skills and knowledge related to IT. They are also introduced to the importance of networking in the IT industry and given a homework task to identify one way to start building their network.

Session 1 (15 minutes) - Review of Homework Task

Have participants share what they learned about their chosen IT career path.

Discuss the different skills and knowledge required for each career path, as well as the potential salary ranges and job outlooks.

Session 2 (15 minutes) - IT Skills Assessment

Provide participants with an assessment tool to help them identify their current skills and knowledge related to IT.

Discuss the assessment results and help participants understand which areas they need to focus on to pursue an IT career.

Homework Task: Identify two areas of IT skills or knowledge you would like to improve upon and research resources for learning more about these topics.

Session 3 (15 minutes) - Fun Activity

Play a game or complete a challenge that requires problem-solving skills, such as an "Escape Room" or "Puzzle Adventure."

This activity will help participants develop their critical thinking and analytical skills, which are essential for IT professionals.

On Day 3 participants review their homework tasks from the previous day and reflect on what they learned during the program. They are also provided with an icebreaker game to solidify their new knowledge before the program concludes.

Have participants share the resources they found for learning more about their chosen IT skills or knowledge areas.

Discuss the importance of ongoing learning and professional development in the IT field.

Session 2 (15 minutes) - Building Your IT Network

Discuss the importance of building a network of contacts in the IT industry, such as attending conferences, joining professional organizations, and networking on social media.

Discuss the assessment results and help participants understand which areas they need to focus on to pursue an IT career.

Homework Task: Identify one way to start building your IT network and make a plan to take action within the next week.

Session 3 (15 minutes) - Wrap-Up and Reflection

Ask participants to reflect on what they learned over the course of the program and how they plan to move forward in pursuing an IT career.

Ice Breaker: "Word Association" - Have each participant say a word related to IT, and then the next person has to say a term that is related to the previous person's word.

This will help solidify their new knowledge and leave the program on a positive note.
